Overview
From 18 November 2025, all UK company directors and people with significant control (PSCs) must verify their identity with Companies House. This is part of new government reforms to improve transparency and prevent fraud.
Failure to complete identity verification by the required deadline is a criminal offence. Directors and PSCs who do not comply may face:
Financial penalties
Prosecution and possible criminal conviction
Removal from the Companies House register (for directors)
As an Authorised Corporate Service Provider (ACSP), FOM-UK can verify your identity with Companies House.
When Is Verification Required?
From 18 November 2025:
New directors - Before appointment or incorporation
Existing directors - By the earlier of:
12 months from 18 November 2025, or
the due date of their next Confirmation Statement after 18 November 2025
New individual PSCs - Within the first 14 days of being added to the register
Existing individual PSCs - Within the first 14 days of their birth month following 18 November 2025
A relevant officer (any registered director) of new corporate PSCs - Within 14 days of the PSC being registered at Companies House
A relevant officer (any registered director) of existing corporate PSCs - By the earlier of:
12 months from 18 November 2025, or
the due date of their next Confirmation Statement after 18 November 2025
